Life in Washington!: June 2013

Holy Moses! Has it really been 2 months since I posted?! I swear, I blink and a week goes by! My apologies for such a long delay since my last post.

It appears that in my last post we were just finishing up winter (in my mind, the end of ski season means winter is over). One of these times I’m going to say we haven’t been busy, but that time won’t be for a good long while. We have been patiently awaiting the arrival of summer and it seems like we are getting real close! The weather has definitely changed, with temps in the 60’s and 70’s and some sun shining through the clouds! June is typically one of the wettest months of the year, but so far we have had more beautiful sunny days, than rainy ones (majorly awesome!). That’s quite enough chatter about the weather.

We have been busy with work and play- Jenny has been working crazy long hours at her residency, and I have been traveling quite a bit again. The perk about my business travel is that a few trips have been back to Chicago. I was lucky enough to spend two weekends with friends and family while traveling for work. To recap my weekends home I was able to: party downtown, see a Dispatch concert, ride bikes with friends downtown, see a Blackhawks playoff game, and attend a family gathering. Phew! Awesomely good stuff!

Seattle proves to be just as jam packed with good stuff. Even with work being so busy, we have time for fun. Our plants are getting huge! We moved them outside and they are loving the real rays of Sun. We will certainly be eating good shortly. Aside from our garden project, I have been staying busy working on sewing projects. One of my projects was an ultra-lightweight, highly compressible sleeping bag. It was a difficult project, but it all came together and turned out super nice! It came in weighing 2 pounds and you can see below how small it compresses down to. I have slept in it a few times and I think I can be comfortable in temps down to about 35. I also had an order for a Mac Pac, which kept me busy for the last few weeks.

We have also been getting out of the city when we can. We made it up to Leavenworth to go rafting on the Wenatchee River with our friends. I made another trip up to Leavenworth for a friend’s bachelor party where we camped out and then rafted the Wenatchee again. I think you guys will enjoy the pics below. As for city stuff, we made it to the USA-Panama World Cup qualifying match which was a riot (we won).

That’s about it for now. The end date to Jenny’s residency is drawing near which has EVERYONE very very excited.

I’ve forgotten to mention that we have officially lived in Seattle for a year. It’s crazy to think that it’s been that long since we moved out here. Honestly, it’s gone by in the blink of an eye. I have to say, the move, transition, and adjustment has all blended together in one giant awesome experience. Just like anything else, it’s had its ups and downs, but absolutely more good days than bad ones. Even on the bad days it’s hard to stay upset when you get to smell the salt water in the air and hear the fog horn of giant ships passing through the Sound (best sound ever). Did I mention there’s a mom and pop fresh fish market 2 minutes away from our house? It’s been a great year so far, and with the recent addition of Luke and Rachel to our house, I expect this summer is full of good times and lots of laughs. I’m thinking it’s going to be a great summer. Enjoy the pics!
